THE ROLE OF LOVE IN CHRISTIAN RELATIONSHIP

PRAYER: Father, we are here again, bless us with your presence and your word in Jesus’ name. 

. Ephesians 3:16-18 [NIV]

“I pray that out of His glorious riches He may grant you with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ”

People of God I’d like to let you know tonight that relationship of any kind is not just a connection between people alone. Relationship has a deeper meaning and significance as far as human beings are concerned. Among many other things that relationship may mean, it may surprise us to know that it is a currency, just like money and other means of exchange.

Relationship is a currency.

Sir it matters who likes you. If God likes you, your life will never be the same. If Men like you, you’ll notice the tangibility of what they express to you. I am telling us this because we need the understanding of relationship to rise or succeed in life. Whatever money can buy, relationship can pay for it. Those are the words of my role model. Your relevance is determined by the quality of the people you relate with.

Now Christian relationship is a very subtle term that causes a lot of arguments here and there, need to understand who is a Christian before we can explore the subject properly.

A Christian is not just a church goer, a worker, pastor or deacon. He’s not just a born again person, there’s more. At salvation sir you benefit from God but it is not a guarantee that you will profit his kingdom. May I shock you, you can be born again and die the next day. It doesn't mean God is wicked. You can be born again and not make any impact on the kingdom. That's why the apostle Paul is praying that you and I will be rooted and grounded in love, then we can have understanding of what he described in verses 18.

Like a tree, you and I are to be planted in the house of God, to the end that our impact on the kingdom may compel gentiles to come to our light and even their kings to the brightness of our rising. This for me is not just a Born again believer, he or she is a Christian indeed.

I want you to make this declaration with me that I will not be a consumer but a benefit for the Lord

If John 3: 16 can say that he so love you and me to the extent that he gave his life for us then it behooves on us to be profitable to him. If you're not making any impact in your marriage as a married man or woman you are a consumer, If you're not making any impact as a brother in the choir or sister in the prayer band you are a consumer. You're mandated to go and bear much fruits. Now this is just a refresher course tonight; that we must hate to be a consumer. We've had enough of them. May you not be among.

Let us not base this topic on marital relationship alone. I want you to know that love, in any relationship at all, serves a foundational purpose. It matters who likes you. Your enemy might not matter, but it matters who likes you. Even if you have the greatest skills on earth, a man will have to reward you, a man will have to discern your importance. a man will have to pay for your service or whatever you have to offer. I urge you to never ignore men, don’t ignore tangible relationships. The Lord will help us in the name of Jesus.
